Obama's "Redistribution of Wealth"

It wasn't but a few years ago when the phrase, "redistribution of wealth" became a "kitchen table" conversation. What was this all about, the redistribution of wealth? Many Americans soon became intrigued by the idea; what does it mean, are they going to take our money, do I have to pay more?

Tensions grew, people were being put out of their homes, people were getting layed off, collecting unemployment and being frugal spenders. Their money be allocated to "friends" called corporations, called government insider trading, called greedy.

The news reports that the redistribution of wealth is a socialist idea, that Obama himself is the founder of "share the money" enterprises and little did many of the unsuspecting Americans know that the "redistribution of wealth" has/had already occurred and has been since the 1970s (probably earlier).

They heard that Obama wants to "share the wealth", that Obama wants to play Robin Hood, they heard what he said on an interview, a sweet little sound bite where Obama was talking about how this works. Without much inquiry, Americans soon became distraught and flippant, "We have a tyrant in our mist, the devil in disguise, the Anti-Christ in the flesh."

They did not know that Obama was talking about the redistribution of wealth that already occurred. How, for the last few decades, the poor were becoming poorer and the rich were becoming so rich that their money became your vote. He was talking about how trickle down economics redistributes your money to the top while the American dream dwindles.

So angry our beloved America has become. The Tea Party with their fancy patriotic costumes and their ill history. Was it their love of country or their love of money that exploded into a series of rhetorical commentary, a news station that profited off their ignorance, their loyalty and their willingness to believe that "the end is neigh", that Jesus Christ himself waits just beyond the horizon ready to save you, me and our fellow Americans from the grips of Satan's run on the world.

Soon, many of them come to find out that even the Tea Party was sold to the highest bidder and News Corps.' CEO Mr. Murdoch was getting busted for illegally invading people's privacy to get the news and treating real news like a plot in a movie, because we all know what sells.

Unannounced to them who was also sold to the highest bidder while having their bank accounts fee'd to death and credit cards soaring APRs resulted in the 99%. Real people who are angry that their money is being stolen right out from under them. The 99% who are tired of their rights being sold to corporations, who are angry that their businesses cannot thrive against Corporatism and an array of clowns running for president who either are filthy rich, commit adultery, sexually harass women, believe in torture, care nothing for foreign policy, would rather let grandma die, and accept millions in payment from the same entities that destroyed America's economy in the first place.

Years ago I wrote to whomever was reading that "government is not going to help you." To, "take your money out of the banks", "stop feeding them" and you didn't listen. I said, "I don't know what it is but it's about to get ugly and you need to put aside your differences and come together for one cause"...

Given the state of which America is in, not much different from say... Syria or Libya or Iraq or at least heading in that direction, are you going to take to the streets and protest with the rest of the 99%. Will you stand down because some ill authorities decided that they don't like free books. They don't like people who look different, dress different, act different... because they aren't wearing suits with fancy perfume or driving nice expensive cars? Instead they are people with tents, who love to read, who value their rights and lives as they value the lives and rights of their fellow American's and those around the globe. They are people trying to live their lives with many different ideals, different backgrounds, and a variety of woes that cannot be addressed in one news interview, in one op-ed, in one article or by one person.

They are being weeded out by force, by the authorities who swore to protect their rights. Their rights to protest, to have a say, to fight against being sold. The good old days when cheesy commercials with punch lines like, "We won't be undersold" from small business owners getting their names out there are a thing of the past and replaced with Walmart ads that say basically the same thing yet in the fine print it says, "on select merchandise."

And what are those select things? I guess you will find out when you go with your ad for gifts from a competitor and they tell you that unfortunately, that product is not on their list of advertised prices so they won't accept. Yeah, sorry but since your hear would you like plastic?

What can you do to fight corpratism?

It's the same thing you have been warned about for years, before Obama became president. Buy local, support local, know what you are buying... I do understand how hard it is when you need to make ends meet but recently I had enough. I had enough of being treated like a money sign at Walmart or other retail corporations that have very little interest in you, and I put the merchandise down, walked out and decided that their cheaper price isn't worth the way I feel when I walk out.

I want to be treated like a human being. I do have feelings and I know that it's not the employees fault they aren't getting paid enough to put a smile on and the dominoes fall that way.

The anger I felt that day was enough to make never ever want to go back, besides having closed out my bank accounts years ago (which I also said you should do and those who have been reading me over the years know that I did) I actively looked for small businesses. I know my neighbors are hurting too.

It was a breath of fresh air to be greeted with sincerity. When was the last time you were greeted with sincerity? When was the last time you walked into a store and didn't feel like you were being pressured into buying something you don't really want or got service or help when you actually needed it?

Ahhh, the redistribution of wealth... Obama was not wrong to say, "Share the wealth!" While in many respects he was talking about a whole array of ways to share the wealth, from social services in politics, to support of small business... he put it out there and I heard what he said.

So, I am a 99% and I am sharing my wealth with the small toy store called Professor Toy. It's a single toy store located in Clovis, California that specializes in educational toys for infants and up. Their toys are unique and quality made. Remember when blocks used to be made out of wood? Yeah, they actually have toys that are made of real wood and sturdy. When you walk in you are immediately immersed in that feeling you use to get when you walked into a toy store as a child. It's there and I fell in love with the store right away. Not only do they carry unique toys but they also carry things like classic train sets as well as arts and crafts.

So I challenge you to Occupy HubPages by writing about a local small business in your area you want to support.

On Saturday November 26th is "support small business day", where you are encouraged to buy at least one thing from a small business. Just remember that every dollar you don't spend at WalMart or Target or Toys R Us is money that is NOT going to the selling of America. Write about your experience, note the differences and feel good about sharing the wealth, feel good about socialism, and just feel good.

Of course there are a lot of other issues that we have to fix ourselves but that is for another hub at another time but in the meantime, don't forget to register to vote if you haven't already and pay attention.

Don't Give Up!

The media is trying to say that the Occupy Movement is over, that the message wasn't powerful enough, that we are all washed up. It's been two months, it gone global! It's is not over, it has only just begun. Occupy whatever you can just be respectful and for the love of the movement and what we stand for, buy something from those local businesses if you need to pee, gosh! lol

Great hub, Sandra. You said it all and better than most. Great idea to write about a local small business. I think I might just do that.

Wow, it was like you were reading my mind. I agree with you on so many levels. Thanks for sharing, and I will, indeed, go local as much as possible, in fact I already have begun.

I think it's great to plug local businesses -- terrific idea. Many Tea Party folks as well as Occupy-types are glad to deal with local small businesses.

However, saying America is headed in the same direction as Syria, Libya, and Iraq is a little inaccurate, don't you think? I also remember when Bank of America reps were at non-profit gatherings in the Pasadena area and the word was they had -- had to -- lend a certain amount of money into the community. Who told them they had to make risky loans? I'd say it was the federal govt.

Thought provoking Hub, though.

Thanks Don for your input. The America heading in the same direction wasn't as in, war torn. It was in the same sense that their people are protesting and their governments aren't listening to them, much the same as what I see here.

I agree that Tea Party types are also glad to deal in small business. It's the one thing both sides can agree on and so I think it's a start.

The Occupy Movement has Tea Party folks protesting too so I think it is awesome that for many people, they were and are able to put aside some differences and be together on for the same cause.

I reckon this is a different kind of party this time round ... the protests and occupations are merely symbolic of a universal Change ... not the "getaway" Change ... that related the Flower ... this relates the Kitchen pots ... This is the Soup Pot this time round ... what we see happening is merely symbolic ... of things to come ... and none can stop this change.
